After investigation comes remediation
In many existing buildings, investigations of the building structure reveal construction materials containing hazardous substances. The presence of building-related contaminants raises various questions for property owners or developers regarding occupant protection, upcoming renovation or refurbishment work, and the disposal of contaminated materials.
In accordance with applicable legal regulations, the owner or developer must ensure that no hazards to third parties arise from buildings. In addition, various aspects of occupational safety and waste legislation must be taken into account for planned construction measures.
We prepare detailed contaminant registers for your building and support you in assessing whether identified contamination poses a risk to ongoing operations and building occupants.
Planning services
If the evaluation of occupant exposure indicates the need for remediation, or if planned construction work inevitably involves intervention in contaminated building materials, we support you in planning the necessary remediation measures. The definition of appropriate protective measures to ensure occupational health and safety when handling hazardous substances is essential for the successful implementation of your construction project.
We are happy to advise our clients on these matters, develop and recommend appropriate remediation strategies, and act as an interface between other specialist planners and construction trades. Our services cover the typical project phases – from initial assessment and planning to procurement and construction supervision.
Construction site supervision and performance monitoring
During ongoing remediation work as well as after completion of construction activities, we support our clients through expert inspections. We can carry out acceptance inspections of work areas and remediation measures and use appropriate control measurements in accordance with the state of the art to verify the achievement of remediation objectives.Our experienced staff ensure compliance with all legal requirements relating to the remediation of contaminated building materials while also maintaining the necessary cost control for the owner or developer.
Disposal
We also offer analysis of materials intended for disposal in accordance with the Substitute Building Materials Ordinance (EBV) or the Landfill Ordinance (DepV). Based on the analytical results, materials are assigned to the appropriate material or landfill classes to ensure proper recycling or disposal.
